website design & hosting
The simple things in life are often the best. Good design, and good web design, should meet your requirements; nothing more, nothing less.
You probably roughly know what you want your site to do. Using a combination of static HTML, client side and server side scripting, and modern web server architecture, the good news is that almost anything is possible. I would be happy to discuss the possibilities of making your idea for a website a reality.
In addition to the web design I can provide hosting support and website administration. This means you have a one stop shop for domain name, website design and ongoing administration.
An example of my work can be found by clicking here.
data mining & visualisation
I have an interest in applying the emerging and powerful fields of data mining and modern 3D graphics hardware and software to solving complex problems.
data mining
In principle data mining can be applied to any data set that has adequate complexity to interesting and beyond the average spreadsheet user to chart every which way. I have had success in applying data mining techniques to data sets that vary from Senate voting patterns, forestry data, through to an Australian database on feral animal predation statistics.
With no prior specialised bio-diversity knowledge, I was able independently discover and quantify support for the existing expert opinion that feral cats tend to prey on native fauna more successfully when there is a water resource in their vicinity, because such a circumstance suits their ambush tactic of predation.
If you have a large datasets that are unutilised there could be valuable insights waiting to be found inside.
Note that there seems to be widespread misconception among otherwise computer savvy professionals that data mining is about dicing and slicing the data until you reach a preconceived outcome. I find it ironic because my view is that data mining does the opposite, presenting you with results without fear or favour, and by comparison to the exhaustive data mining approach, traditional approaches of analysing data begin to appear to be based on preconceived notions of what will work and what results are likely to appear at certain times.
Of course, there is a place for both the traditional and the modern data mining approaches, and the pragmatic course of action is to take a diverse approach and present a well balanced argument that should be backed up by a rational and well informed discussion of the results.
visualisation
The power of modern 3D graphics processors is amazing. The $200 Asus ATI Radeon HD4850 with 1GB video RAM that currently resides in my computer is more powerful than all of my previous desktop computers combined.
It seems to me that all the 3D cards out there should be put to a more constructive use than playing 3D games.
My current interest is in the open source projects OGRE and the Bullet Physics library. Simulating and visualising data and modelling algorithms in an immersive and interactive environment allows problem solving in a whole new way. My research into this field is a work in progress with updates to be posted soon. I would be happy to discuss how you can make use of the latest developments in 3D hardware and software.
tailored open source software
Despite the above statement about the simple things, sometimes open source software allows you to roll out a powerful set of features with a minimum of fuss. Until you want to change something. Something trivial. Scratch the surface of open source software and often it's not for the faint hearted.
I would be happy to discuss what packages are available for free use that will largely suit your needs, and provide the tailoring support to make it suit your needs even further.
Open source packages I have experience in are:
- Vtiger, a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system
- Drupal, a Content Management System (CMS)
- phpBB, a Bulletin Board for user forums
- MediaWiki, the wiki software behind Wikipedia
about
hoponline is a micro business run by Kurt Pudniks. I started the business in 2008 to make use of my study, work experience and overarching interests in the above computer related fields.
I think that almost anything is possible with the power and flexibility of modern computer hardware and software, and I would like to discuss making the technology work for your desired purposes.
Please get in contact by writing a message below, sending an email, giving me a call, or better yet by meeting up in the Canberra region.
All the best, and thanks for your interest.
